Ranthambore National Park is one of the largest national parks in Northern India. Along with Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary it is spread over 400 sq. kms of pristine forests. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan and was a very popular game sanctuary for the Maharajas of Jaipur.
Ranthambore is mainly famous for its tigers but it is also home to a variety of animals like Leopards, striped hyenas, Sambar deer, chital, nilgai, macaques, five-striped palm squirrels, Indian false vampires, Indian flying foxes. The park also has a large number of reptiles like marsh crocodiles, desert monitors, banded kraits, cobras, Ganga turtles, Russel’s vipers, and more – giving wildlife enthusiasts and photographers a chance to observe, experience and make photographs of a variety of animals in one of the most pristine wildlife settings in the country.
Ranthambore is unique for the fact that you spot all these animals in day-time itself, (thanks to the rich forest cover), making it an ideal place for experimenting with wide angle, zoom and subjects in-motion wildlife photographs. Birdwing’s tour of Ranthambore is an exciting and experiential in wildlife photo-tour where you will not only get to learn making great pictures but will also be given a heads up on the natural history of the place and the subjects (flora & fauna), giving you a better understanding and a unique perspective into wildlife photography.
The best time to visit Ranthambore is during the winters. It is a pretty cinematic experience and as you enter the park the winter mist lifts off to reveal the beauty of the forest. Expect a beautiful uniform golden ray of sunlight during winters for a prolonged period in the day. And this is best for the activity of the mammals. Ready for some thrilling wildlife photography then?
